The Social Worker provides leadership to Principal Matron and is responsible for community service activities and promoting a protective atmosphere at the ETM and to ensure active participation of all persons including persons with specific needs (PSN). The incumbent collaborates with other protection and community service staff to ensure that all persons have person centered and dignified access to services.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess, identify and verify the people with specific needs (PSNs) in the settlement and work with partner agencies implementing partner to address the identified needs;
- Liaise with the protection staff to access assorted items for (PSNs) and ensure effective distribution to the right recipients;
- Link /coordinate PSNs with the relevant sectors leads for support
- Provide orientation to PoCs including new arrivals for available services in the settlement;
- Promote peaceful coexistence and social cohesion between the people of concerns and the host community through the home-grown solutions such as Umuganda, Parents evening, Ubudehe, among others.
- Provide psychosocial counseling services to all PoCs in need and provide referrals to appropriate service providers;
- Provide and keep adequate documentation of all cases in community services including routine update of the PSN lists
- Liaise with the Sports Facilitator to engage the community members in recreation activities at their leisure;
- Review and attend to referral cases received from other partners such as MINEMA, UNHCR and other implementing partners.
- Support refugee volunteers and other community-based structures in their daily routine follow-ups and home visits;
- Attend to community meetings organized internally to strengthen community participation;
EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, Community Psychology, Education, and other any other related fields;
- Three years of working experience in Community services with an INGO
- Excellent report writing, communication and analytical skills.
- The person must be able to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to manage multiple tasks at a time and work effectively with colleagues from different backgrounds
- Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed
